Chemical Peel Treatments

Home / Beauty Treatments / Chemical Peel Treatments
If you are looking for Skin Treatments because your skin is starting to show the effects of time, you may wish that there was a way to restore the youthful ‘glow’ to your face.

You may even have tried some of the many ‘anti-ageing’ serums and creams that there are on the market, that at best provide only a very mild improvement.

If you are looking for a more effective skin treatment or anti-ageing solution, then you should consider a chemical peel treatment.

Chemical peels treatments use a powerful exfoliant that remove the dead skin layers from the outer ‘crust’ of the skin, revealing the younger, fresher layers underneath. They also even out the skin texture and coloration, hence their use in age spots. Peels used in the cosmetic clinic are much more powerful than commercially available exfoliants, although they can be used in combination.  These peels range from mild ‘lunchtime peels’ through to more intense peels that remove more layers of skin.

What can we treat with our Chemical Peel Treatments?

As well as an excellent exfoliating treatment to make the skin feel smoother and younger, peels can also be used to treat acne and acne scars, rosacea, pigmented areas. They can reduce fine lines under the eyes or around the mouth, and reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles.

How many Chemical Peel treatments are needed?

This depends very much on the type of skin you have, and what we are treating. Usually a course of treatments will be either 4 or 6 in total for the maximum benefit. In addition, creams will need to be applied during the period between treatments. Your doctor will discuss what combination of treatments will work best for your face at your consultation.

How long does a Chemical Peel treatment take?

Chemical Peel Cosmetic Treatments take between 15-30 minutes.

Can any skin colour be treated with Chemical Peel Treatments?

Most certainly. The darker the skin, the more powerful the peel needs to be. Again, your doctor will be able to advise on this at your assessment.

What do we use for our Chemical Peels?

The mildest chemical peel treatments are called AHA, or alpha-hydroxy acid peels. These are made from naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods, and have been used for treating the skin since the days of the ancient Egyptians. AHA can be found in many commercially available preparations, but by law only concentrations of 10% or less may be sold over the counter and provide a limited effect only. We use concentrations generally of 20% upwards. These give an immediate freshness and glow to the skin that you had forgotten you once had.

The stronger chemical peel treatments are called TCA, (Tri-Chlor acetic acid), which cause 3-7 days of peeling depending upon depth achieved. Results achieved will be smoother, firmer, fresher skin. We call this a ‘resurfacing’ peel as a lot more skin layers are removed with TCA. We use 15 – 20% TCA.

The Obagi Deep Blue peel is like the ‘Lexus’ of Chemical peel treatments.
